Overton Artist To Show Photos At Lost City Museum

The photography of Overton resident Nick Yamashita will be on display at a special exhibit in the Lost City Museum during the month of March.

Included in the exhibit will be about two dozen original photographs including local landscapes, wildlife shots, Native American images and patriotic-themed photos.

Yamashita grew up in Moapa Valley and graduated from Moapa Valley High School in 1997.

He has had a lifelong fascination with photography. It began in earnest with being a yearbook photographer at the local high school. Later he took photography classes in college and spent time working as a crime scene photographer for law enforcement.

“In those days a big part of creating photographs was done in the darkroom,” Yamashita said. “I used to spend hours in the dark room developing and working with my images.”

Nowadays, Yamashita enjoys talking photos as more of a high-level hobby. He loves making photos of his beloved hometown, its landscape surroundings and its people.

“I love capturing landscapes,” Yamashita said. “But lately I have been branching out and have been doing a lot of portraits and even boudoir photo work. I like to help people feel beautiful and boost their confidence through photography.”

The photos on display next month at the museum will be available for purchase. Yamashita can be reached at 702-286-5469 or by email at yoshiyamasyen@gmail.com.

The Lost City Museum is located at 721 S. Moapa Valley Blvd. in downtown Overton. It is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is $5 for adults and seniors, free for children 17 and under.
