The Moapa Valley Community-Wide Yard Sale Event continued this year, even though the big annual sale usually put on by the Moapa Valley Rotary Club in Lin’s Marketplace parking lot did not take place. But there was still plenty of yard sale fun to go around throughout the community.

Without the pulling power of the Rotary Club, the listings on the 2021 Community-wide Yard Sale map was a little slim. Only seven yard sale sites were listed on the official map. But a few, who didn’t make the deadline added on social media and other online platforms. In the end over 20 yard sales joined in on the fun.

“We have had some good success,” said Terje Riisnaes who held one of the sales. “Over 100 people have come and gone through the last couple of days.”

Riisnaes and his wife Kim were one of the seven listed yard sale sites with the Community-Wide Yard Sale Event. Their Tres Coyotes Estate Sale in Overton had everything from a Coke bottle collection to magic kits and more.

“We have done this event every year and we have had big success before,” said Kim Riisnaes. “We love the fact that besides locals, we get people from Vegas to come too.”

The other yard sales listed included a big yard sale across from the Overton Power District office, the Train House Yard Sale, the Leavitt Family Yard Sale, Schultz Yard Sale, Lyman Street Yard Sale. All of these were in Logandale. The last one was in Glendale/Moapa area at the Red Rock Ranch.

The yard sales, including those not listed on the map, reported success, and a good amount of people making stops to see the inventory of used treasures available.

Besides the annual big yard sale event for Moapa Valley, the weekly Moapa Valley Arts and Craft Street Market also took place at its usual spot at 480 S. Jones behind the Senior Center Thrift Store.

Organizer Tammy Symons has provided a free service vendor booth that helps community members in learning the hobby of family genealogy. She also has provided an “art canvas” in which she hopes that all “artists” come every Saturday for the next month and paint their expressions in art about the Covid pandemic.

“I want Moapa Valley to come to bring their kids and themselves and paint what they want to bring to light about their experiences with the Covid Pandemic,” Symons said. “Especially now that we are starting to see some of the mandates dropping and returning to what life was before the pandemic.”

The community art project will be available to add more at the weekly Moapa Valley Street Market every Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at 480 S. Jones. Both vendors and attendees may contact Tammy Symons at (702) 726-1796 for more information.
