The Progress
Mesquite realtor Karen Fielding has spent the last few weeks driving through the community asking friends and community members to fill her trunk with food. She has just completed her 6th annual “Fill my Trunk” Food Drive to benefit the Salvation Army of Mesquite food pantry.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mar. 9, ten days after she began the drive, Fielding delivered two cars loads; filled floor to ceiling front seat, backseat and trunk; to the Mesquite Salvation Army office. All in all, the delivery added up to more than a ton of food; 2,124 pounds to be exact. This surpassed last year’s drive by a full 400 pounds.
“Two car loads, trunks, back and front” Fielding exclaimed. I am happy!”
Fielding expressed gratitude to all in the community who supported the “Fill my Trunk” drive and donated food items.
“I am just overwhelmed with gratitude and constantly thankful for our great City of Mesquite residents and businesses.” said Fielding.
This year, the word of the drive actually spread even further than the bounds of Mesquite. Fielding said that she had received a cash donation from a friend that lives in the state of Virginia.
There were many donations from individuals. And the local businesses always support a need, Fielding said.
This year’s business supporters included Mesquite Business Center, The Corn Dog Company, White Glove Auto Spa, ERA Brokers, and Primex Plastics.
“Karen never ceases to amaze me in her dedication and total commitment to the citizens of Mesquite that are in need,” said Salvation Army of Mesquite Director Bill Ennis. “She is one of the most caring and giving women I have met since I have been in Mesquite and have taken over The Salvation Army here.
She will take time out of her day and even her own free time to help out.”
