Workforce Housing Gets Restart

Expectant attendees got their first look at Mesquite’s newest multi-family residential development on Friday morning, Mar. 26, at a special ribbon cutting ceremony for the Casa Playa Villas apartment complex.

The three story buildings consisting of 48 luxury studio units are located at 260 East Mesquite Blvd. directly across the street from Maverik.
Mayor Al Litman cut the ribbon and welcomed the business to Mesquite.

The group of dignitaries at the ribbon cutting were flanked by the ever-present Mesquite showgirls, represented that day by Gale Laird and Becky Boyd.

This project is the first new apartment complex built in Mesquite in nearly a decade. Mesquite Chamber President/CEO Carol Kolson expressed how the new units fill an important need in the Mesquite community. The units are great for the City’s growing singles workforce, she said. In addition, they will serve a need as interim housing for people relocating to the area permanently.

“These units are the perfect place for people to stay while waiting for their new home to be built,” Kolson said.

The new complex is owned by four partners including Gary and Sharon Neilson and Anne and James Bertschi. They all live nearby in St George, Utah. This is their first venture of this sort. Bertschi is owner of Garage Doors Only in St George.

“We are so excited about this project and being able to place it in a small town like Mesquite,” Bertschi said.

The owners have hired a personable couple, Doug, and Cheri Smith, as on-site managers for the property.

“We are already 50 percent filled right now,” Doug Smith said. “I am surprised and happy to find we have a family-type environment among the residents. We would like to keep it that way.”

The units are 540 square feet of well-organized space. The rent is the same for all units: $880, which includes trash, water, sewer and one covered parking space. The units also include a full-size washer and dryer.

The 9’ ceilings give each unit a spacious feeling. And sound-proofing in between walls and floors provides a sense of privacy.

The three-story building does have elevators. And the top floor units gives one a great view of the surrounding area.

The units are built with quality materials and components including high efficiency LED lighting, multi-speed ceiling fans, ovewrsized bath tubs, granite countertops and more.
One pet is allowed with an extra $500 of security deposit.
