The Moapa Valley Fire District (MVFD) responded to a garage fire at a home on Moapa Valley Blvd in Logandale, near the curve at Lyman Street, on Wednesday, April 14. The alarm came in at 2:37 pm.

According to MVFD Chief Stephen Neel, the volunteer fire crew at Logandale Station 73 had just returned to their station from a call on the freeway when this call came in.

“So we were pretty much all ready to roll when the call came in,” Neel said. “We arrived on the scene within 2-and-a-half minutes.”

Within a few minutes, ten volunteers from all three stations had arrived on the scene.

They found a home with an attached garage with “lazy smoke” billowing from the cracks in the roll-up door of the garage.

Neel said that the owner of the home had been working on an ATV in the garage and something had sparked a fire inside the garage which had quickly spread.

The firemen gained access by forcing an entry door open on the side of the building. They encountered heavy smoke with the ATV smouldering. Within a short time, the source of the smoke was extinguished, Neel said.

Because of code-required robust firewall structure between garage and house, the fire did not spread into the attic or to the rest of the structure, Neel said.

Most of the damage was to the interior of the garage and its contents. No structural damage was sustained to the building and no one was injured in the incident.

Neel chuckled about a few rumors he saw circulating on social media about a dead body having been found at the location.

“For some reason people always go to the dead body rumors,” Neel said. “I don’t know where those things come from. But there was no dead body.”
