Those driving past the Redd Hills Plaza on West Pioneer Boulevard in Mesquite on Saturday might have noticed something unusual about the buildings housing the Rooster Cottage Consignment Gallery. At least, it was unusual in these times of social distancing. People were gathered and there was a packed parking lot.

In conjunction with its annual Spring Open House, Rooster Cottage held its 10th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 17. As is usual for this event, the Cottage invited local artists and vendors to set up booths and sell their work on site.

In addition to local vendors, the Rooster Cottage also had a live band on-site playing various classics. Each visitor to the event also received a free gift and a warm welcome from a member of the Rooster Cottage team.

One of the vendors, Lauren Deen of Lauren’s Lovely Loot shared that this was her first event since COVID canceled public gatherings. A snowbird from Fairplay, Colorado, Mrs. Deen was bursting with excitement for the event.

“I’m so excited to be here and to learn from other vendors,” Deen said. “It is really good to see people out and about interacting with one another. Everyone has genuinely been so nice. I think it is healthy: people need people.”

Rooster Cottage co-owner, Carol Bulloch (formerly Turley for native Moapa Valley residents who know her) and her business partner, Dana Bulloch, opened the doors of the Rooster Cottage in May of 2011. When Carol reflected back at the past ten years of business in Mesquite, she felt gratitude.

“We are so grateful to the consigners who provide us with great inventory and our wonderful customers who come in to buy the items,” Bulloch said. “Businesses here often struggle with the summer months when there are fewer people in town. But people have been so good to us and have continued to support us.”

This holds especially true after the pandemic, she said. Bulloch shared how grateful she and Dana are at the support from the community when they were finally able to reopen their doors.

Not wanting to miss out on an opportunity to praise one of the main factors of Rooster Cottage’s success, Carol also expressed how grateful she and Dana are for their employees.

“Our ladies are loyal, supportive, helpful, and have so much energy it is contagious!” she said.
As a consignment shop, Rooster Cottage’s inventory is always changing, so you never know what treasures you might find!

The store hours are from 10 am – 5 pm on Monday through Friday and 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday. That stays in effect until June 1 when they switch to summer hours of 10 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Saturday.
