LETTER: National Debt!

I’m afraid most people do not understand the value of a trillion dollars. If you owed someone a trillion dollars, and paid them $100 million per day, it would take you over 27 years to pay it off!

Since our politicians (both Democrat and Republican) have us at over $28 trillion in debt, it would take over 767 years to pay it off at $100 million per day. This is assuming we did not have to pay interest on the loan.

We are currently paying over $500 billion (that’s 1/2 a trillion) per year. The interest rate will no doubt go up now that they are causing inflation (check your gas price) .

Have you noticed their new bills all seem to cost around $2 trillion. This will, of course, add 54 years to the debt. However, only 9% of the current bill is going to the needs of the pandemic.

Why don’t they write bills that fit the “purpose”of the bill? Can someone explain to me why they included prisoners to receive the “stimulus” funds? They have not recently lost their jobs. They do not need more money for “room and board”.

Unfortunately, our federal government is not the only political group that wastes our taxpayer dollars. Several states have gone into debt, not because of the pandemic, but because of poor state management.

There are hundreds of billions in the bill to go to these poorly run states to bail them out. Have you noticed? None of these government entities considered reducing expenditures (such as the government waste we hear about), but no one does anything about it.

Their answer for the debt problem, is to raise our taxes. They are currently spending over $6 trillion each year (not counting these new bills). Currently tax revenues are a little over $3 trillion per year. So, they would have to double our taxes just to cover what they spend now.

You might want to contact your senators and representatives and ask them to not spend money they don’t have. And, do something about reducing expenses and eliminating waste. Cutting the military and defunding the police will do nothing to eliminate this problem.

I’m fed-up with the 2-party system. The only people partying, are the politicians. I think everyone should consider firing all of them and replace them. Who knows, maybe we could get lucky and put some people in who think they work for us, and actually do their job!

In our households we have to limit our spending based on our incomes (revenue). Some politicians moan about the debt saying our grandchildren will have to pay for it. Unless they live as long as some of the people in the bible (900 years), that “ain’t” gonna happen.
