The Virgin Valley High School (VVHS) FFA Chapter held a trap shoot contest, a fundraiser dinner, and a Cowboy Prom event on Saturday, May 15 in Littlefield, Arizona. All of these were open to the whole community. The events raised a total of $1,200 for FFA scholarship awards to local Ag students.

The three back-to-back events were organized by Virgin Valley FFA Teacher Lacey Tom and the local FFA chapter officers.

The trapshoot event started at 10:00 am and was held at the Smokin’ Gun Club in Littlefield. About 20 shooters entered the competition which was facilitated by the Clark County Farm Bureau. Winners of the trap shoot were Pat Sherwood, Stephanie Sherwood, and Justin Burton.

A fundraiser dinner started at 5 pm and was held at the nearby Hafen Ranch in Littlefield. Guests parked at the top of the hill and walk down into the ranch area following a path which was lit with solar lights.

Once the guests arrived at the ranch they could enjoy live country music and dancing.

The dinner included smoked pork, biscuits, potato salad, coleslaw, a cookie, and a drink that was ready to serve. The sides were prepared for the banquet by the VVHS Culinary Classes.

The dinner was immediately followed by the Cowboy Prom. This event was open for the entire community and more than 100 people attended and had a greawt time dancing to country music favorites. Live country music was provided at the Cowboy Prom by George Strait Tribute band with Jack and Janet LeDuc.

A 50/50 raffle was held during the prom where whoever won the drawing got to keep half of the money raised through ticket sales. The other half went to the scholarship fund.

Those who won the drawing were kind enough to donate the winnings back into the scholarship fund.

Those in attendance said that they had a good time and hoped that it would become a regular tradition.
“It was pretty good, we need to do it again,” said VVHS student attendee, Erin Ellison.
VVHS Vice President Paola Trujillo said, “I enjoyed my time at the Cowboy Prom, getting dressed up and hanging out with my friends.”

FFA Advisor Lacey Tom expressed gratitude for all of the efforts taken to make the evening a success.
“I’m thankful for my FFA officers who stepped up and worked extremely hard for this event both prior, during, and afterward,” Tom said. “I’m also grateful for Jack and Janet LeDuc for reaching out to me to play amazing music; and the Nevada Farm Bureau for teaming up with FFA to host this event. It was a lot of fun. I can’t wait to do more events like this in the future for our community.”

The FFA officers who worked hard to organize the event and set everything up for it, also stayed afterwards to help clean up and take down decorations.

In the future FFA intends to hold more events like this. The chapter will keep the community posted with the dates and places.
