The Cancer Help Society and the Mesquite Women’s History and Cultural Center (WHCC) sponsored a fun-filled afternoon workshop instructing in the wear and care of wigs on Friday, May 28. The class was held at the WHCC at 225 North Willow St, RM23.

Teaching the workshop was Karen Lambert, owner of FRINGE Salon. Lambert shared her knowledge of wigs and their care.

Ten adult ladies and two younger ladies attended the class.
Yoli Bell, President of the Cancer Help Society was there to assure cancer patients that the Society offers many wigs, free of charge, to people battling cancer. For more information, contact the Society at 702-345-0622.
“This class is to help you feel more comfortable in your wigs,” said Bell.

Lambert assured the cancer patients in attendance that she would work on their wigs free of charge. Lambert may be contacted at 702-346-2053 or at 702-813-7505
Not everyone in attendance was a cancer patient, though. Many ladies like to wear wigs for other reasons.

Lambert brought one of her clients as a live model. Betty Olsen was a good sport showing how to wear hair pieces.

Peggy Tuttle who just finished her round of chemotherapy came in wearing a yellow bandana and left with a smile, looking striking in her new “hair.”

Lambert did an outstanding job instructing the women on how to buy and care for hair pieces and wigs.
There were also drawings for attendees to win a number of prizes donated by Fringe Salon and the Cancer Help Society.
“This was very educational,” said attendee Mary Kessler. “I think it was simply great.”

“This Center always has interesting classes,” said attendee Becky Boyd. “This class was wonderful and fun.”

WHCC president Jean Watkins said, “We are more than happy to provide a venue for helpful gathering like this anytime we can.”

Watkins reminded everyone that the WHCC is available at no charge for small groups and non-profits that need occasional space. For more information call 702-345-4088 or 801-628-1849.
