The Progress
The students of Studio B Dance Academy performed their annual June production to a full house at the Old Logandale School on Saturday, June 5.
Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends of the 130 dancers filed into the auditorium and filled all the seats. Quite a few had to stand at the back to catch a glimpse of their loved one dancing.
The two-hour performance was entitled “Vacation.” Each dance was from a different destination, especially some of the well-known vacation spots.
The performances included students from 11 regular classes, competition team, and private instruction, ranging in ages from 3 to 18. Even the instructors were involved in a performance.
“It was amazing how many people were there to support the kids,” said Studio B owner and isntructor Brianna Waite. “It was hot, but we really appreciate the community and support.”
The audience was thoroughly entertained with the cuteness of the toddlers, enchanted with the older students, and captivated by the skills of the competition team. The show included a sampling of culture from Africa, Hawaii, Europe, and even an outstanding Bollywood performance.
By the end of the night, even the seated audience members were standing to an ovation of the spellbinding performances.
There was a 15-minute intermission halfway through to which most audience members stepped outside to stretch, cool off, and more. But even with the uncomfortable heat in the room and lack of seating, there were no complaints as all were there in support of the students.
“It has been an amazing year and I can’t believe it is over,” said Waite. “We are definitely looking forward to the next dance year and what it will bring.”
In another announcement Waite revealed that the Competition Team had traveled the previous weekends to the Spellbound and Inferno Nationals competitions. At Spellbound they were awarded the Judge’s Specialty Showmanship Award for Hip Hop and high gold for all four routines. At Inferno, they received platinum for all 3 routines, 6th place overall, a judges award for their routine “On Fire” and best costumes for “Hurt for Me” performance.
Thanks were given to all of the parents for their support, the instructors including (but not limited) to Taylor Asay, Aubrey Doty, Holly Schall, and student-instructor Melanie Fisher. They also gave thanks to Deanna Dotson, who works as an assistant in managing things from costuming to design and more.
