The Virgin Valley Artists’ Association presented its monthly awards on Thursday, May 20. The theme for the contest exhibit this month was “In the Garden.”

The May exhibit received the most entries ever, 95. So the gallery walls were packed with artist renditions of beautiful, colorful gardens and flowers.
Association President Christine Picior remarked “This is the most beautiful show we have had!”

She specifically thanked the hanging committee for their “perfect eye” while hanging all those pictures to make a beautiful showing.
The Sponsor for this month was Mesquite Gaming.

Receiving Honorable Mentions were Barbara Holdcroft for “Nocturnal Tapestry”; Randy Bauman for “Iridescent Dawn”; Christine Picior for “Morning Dew”; and Susan McPherson “Hiding in Plain Sight.”

Third place in the show went to Rachelle Knight for her acrylic “Pretty Boy.”

Second Place went to Wendy Douglas for her fabric “Quilted Garden.”

First Place went to Helen Fayerweather’s acrylic “Garden Visitors.”

The Mayor’s Choice and the People’s Choice was a piece done in fused glass “Color in the Garden” by Pam Jacobson.

Jacobson teaches fused glass classes at Sun City. She said it took her about 28 hours working a couple of hours every night to create the piece.

The Sponsors Choice, an acrylic “Butterfly in the Garden”, was done by Coreen De Berry Mitchel.
Mitchell has been an Artist Association member for one year and this is her second win.

“This was a piece I had been working on for a long time andcouldn’t get it finish,” Mitchell said. “When this theme in the garden came up, it inspired me to complete it.”

Best of Show in the exhibit went to Jane Johnson for “Tree of Life.”

The Theme next month will be “Art By Poetry” and will be showing from May 31 to June 26.

The Mesquite Fine Arts Center Gallery & Gift shop is located at 15 W. Mesquite Blvd. The facility is open to the public 10AM to 4PM Monday thru Saturday.
