The Mesquite Library branch hosted a fabulous and free retro concert on Saturday evening, June 19. The duo known as Sundae and Mr. Goessl performed in a concert that was open to the public, all courtesy of the Clark County Library District.
The Sundae in the duo is award-winning retro songstress Kate Voss. And Mr. Goessl would be and Jason Goessl, an accomplished jazz guitarist. These two artists have partnered in life, and musically, to entertain audiences across the country.They travel far and wide in their 30-RV bringing their delightful renditions of past favorites to audiences.
Sundae’s voice lends itself to the big band era music and torch songs. She was a piano teacher for ten years. That explains how accomplished she is with the Melodica, a free-reed instrument. It looks like a small handheld keyboard but is powered by an air tube. Sundae blows into the air tube as she plays the keyboard.
Goessl is not only a magnificent guitarist, but he also does some handy foot-work too. His keyboard is a pedal board located on the floor. While playing and switching between one of the four different guitars, he is pedaling the footboard. Talk about walking and chewing gum at the same time!
The duo’s rendition of Blue Bayou was a knockout. In between songs the audience was treated to a host of corny jokes, most of the time they were funny.
Their final song was “Unforgettable” … and it was.
Sadly, the attendance at the concert was not stellar. There were 15 people in attendance to hear these great sounds.
At the end of the evening, though, the audience had the chance to mingle with the two artists and tell them how much they appreciated hearing these wonderful old favorites.
