A local church congregation gave a generous donation to help with educational needs at an area school in Arizona. On Friday, August 6, the Beaver Dam Junior/Senior High School received the check for $800 from representatives of the United Methodist Church in Mesquite.

Presented to Beaver Dam Superintendent and Principal Darlene McCauley just before the beginning of the school year, the funds were intended for the teachers to use as needed in their classrooms this fall.
United Methodist spokeswoman Kathleen Winstanley said that the church has long been interested in community outreach, especially in the field of education.

“We like to support the area schools as much as we can,” she said. “This year we decided it was Beaver Dam’s turn.”

In its community outreach efforts, the church has previously supplied knit caps and scarves to the pupils in area grade schools. Other similar projects have supplied clothing and other essentials to local emergency shelters and to the Salvation Army of Mesquite organization, Winstanley said.

“The Methodist Church values community outreach,” Winstanley concluded. “We were happy to help with educational needs in this small way.”
