Marriage Licenses To Be Issued In Mesquite

By BOBBIE GREEN

The Progress

Marriage licenses will soon be issued at Mesquite City Hall. This announcement was made by Mesquite City Council Member Sandra Ramaker at the last Mesquite City Council meeting.

According to Ramaker, the city has already approved, and made a space for, a part-time Clark County Clerk representative to work in Mesquite.

“We are just waiting for the paperwork process to take place,” Ramaker said. “The normal process time is six to eight weeks. They expect to put out a hire notice soon for the Part-Time Clerk here.”

The expansion of Clark County Clerk services into Mesquite will provide a number of new services for area residents. And it would add the convenience of not having to drive into Las Vegas for those services.
Ramaker said that issuing marriage licenses, as well as certificates of renewal of marriage vows, could be an economic boon to the city of Mesquite, opening opportunities for local businesses to host these important events.

“Eureka Casino and Rising Star love to host weddings!” said Andre Carrier, President and COO of Eureka Resorts. “We do not have plans for a wedding chapel, but our ballrooms offer an array of flexible floor plans that can include a dance floor and stage for a band or DJ. The hotel gardens offer wonderful settings for ceremonies and evening cocktail receptions.”

“This is amazing!” said local realtor and licensed marriage officiant Karen Fielding. “I could not be happier! Mesquite will become a destination for weddings. It is great news!”

Ramaker said that the goal would be to start with a part-time County Clerk office at City Hall.
The plan is that this person will be able to do everything here in Mesquite that they do in Las Vegas,” Ramaker said. “And all the services they provide will help with the economic development of Mesquite.”

In addition to marriage licenses, the Clark County Clerk officer in Mesquite would be able to issue oaths of office, swear in Notaries Public, do fictitious Name searches for businesses and verify Proof of Life forms, and documents.
