There is a new FFA advisor at the Virgin Valley High School. Former Moapa Valley resident Bailey Kesl has already received a great Bulldog welcome as she has taken the post. She will be stepping into the vacancy left by Lacey Tom who has taken the FFA position at Moapa Valley High School.

Kesl was born in Reno, Nevada. But in 2002 she moved with her family to Overton.

Kesl has been living in Mesquite since January, though. She came to Mesquite because she has always wanted to live here. Most of her family lives here as well.

“It was a goal of mine to move to Mesquite after I finished school to be closer to my family and animals,” Kesl said.
She has a horse, two poodles and two axolotls which she keeps in the classroom.

Kesl’s hobbies include two-step and any other type of dancing. She also likes barrel racing, spending time with family, photography, rock hunting and floral design.

Kesl was in FFA for three years while attending school at Moapa Valley High School. During that time, she competed in soil judging and also floral culture as her main career development events (CDE) along with multiple others.

This will be Bailey’s first year of teaching. But she has helped teach and train others in her past jobs.
Kesl said that she became an FFA teacher because she wanted to have a positive impact on others. With her knowledge from her various jobs combined with her education in environmental management, she belives she has a fresh perspective to share with her students.

When the opportunity to be an FFA instructor arose, Kesl said that the FFA motto came to mind. That motto states: “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live and Living to Serve”
“As an FFA member this has taught Me from day one,” she said. “‘Living to serve’ especially hit home when this job became available.”

Kesl hopes to give back and serve with the organization that gave her so much and made her the person she is today.
“It is an honor to be a Bulldog representing Agriculture education” said Kesl.

Kesl’s goals for this school year are to have as much student, school and community involvement as possible both at home in Virgin Valley and at the State FFA events.

“I hope to create a culture based on hard work and dedication to teach students the value of commitment and earning achievements,” Kesl said.

In the classroom Kesls goal is to facilitate an interactive learning environment that will leave a lasting impression on her students. When the FFA attends state to compete in CDEs, her goal is to showcase the students proficiency in the job skills contest.
