The Exchange Club of Mesquite will be holding its annual Remember 9/11 ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 pm on the lawn in front of Mesquite City Hall. All residents and visitors are invited to pause with them at that time to remember and reflect on the tragic events of 20 years ago, when approximately 3,000 people lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
“At this year’s event, special attention will be paid to the children of the first responders left behind, and how their lives were affected,” said event coordinator Paul Benedict of the Exchange Club of Mesquite. “We encourage entire families to attend, as children will be a major part of the ceremony.”
“The 40-minute ceremony will be brief, and the words will be few, but the need to join together in remembrance has never been greater,” Benedict added. “America grew stronger that day, with a renewed sense of patriotism.”
The Mesquite Fire and Rescue Department and the Mesquite Police Departments will be represented in the ceremony. “This will give the public an opportunity to thank these brave men and women for all they do, and for all they are willing to do, to keep us safe,” Benedict said.
The Exchange Club of Mesquite organizes this remembrance each year as a visible and poignant reminder that the Nation survived those attacks, Benedict said. “Although still under attack both here and around the world, we continue to survive and to thrive as we reassert our allegiance to, and love for, America.
Attendees are advised bring their own chairs and gather on Saturday, Sept. 11 in front of City Hall at 6:30 PM, just before sundown.
