Linda Marie Whitney

Linda Marie Whitney, 67, passed away on Monday September 6, 2021 in Las Vegas, NV after several months of being treated for lymphoma cancer. She shared her residence between St. David, AZ and Circleville, UT.

Linda was born on November 15, 1953 to Risorgi Berndardini and Mathilda Doris Boulos in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She grew up on her father’s farm in Hornby, Ontario, Canada with her brother Renzo and sisters Tina and Louise. After graduation, Linda, with her intense love of travel, visited Cameroon in Africa and then Peru in South America where she became acquainted with her soon-to-be husband and eternal companion Kenneth Whitney.

Ken and Linda were married in Las Vegas, NV on November 9, 1974 and made their home with their young family over the years in Southern California, Arizona, and Logandale, NV. After completing a Master’s degree in English literature, Linda taught English, French, and yearbook and shared her love of travel with her students by organizing trips to Europe. She loved learning and teaching, especially language, speaking English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Arabic.

Linda was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on November 16, 1974, and they were sealed in the St. George Temple on December 16, 1978. In later years, Linda continued her love of teaching and service by returning to Peru with her husband to serve two missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. First in the Trujillo South Mission, they lived for two years in the town of Virú where Linda served the people, supported the church, taught piano, and established a choir. On their second mission, Ken and Linda served for eighteen months in the Trujillo temple.

Linda will be remembered as a loving friend, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves a legacy of adventure and travel, and a passion for learning and teaching. ‘While saddened by her death, her faith gives us hope that we will one day soon be with her again.’

Linda is survived by her husband of over 46 years, Kenneth Whitney; her children: Christopher (Summer) Whitney, Melanie (Shannon) Muir, Martha Tanner, Rebecca (Nick) Bryce, McKay (Keresa) Whitney, and Matthias (Megan) Whitney; 28 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; her siblings: Renzo Bernadini, Louise Bernardini, and Tina (Ken) Hardy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.She is preceded by her daughter Reina Whitney (1981-82).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary with visitation from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at the mortuary. Graveside service will follow at the Logandale Cemetery.
