Book Sale Benefits Mesquite Reads

The Sunrise Rotary Club held its annual Book Sale in front of the Mesquite Library on Saturday morning, Sept. 11. There were stacks of books for sale; hundreds to choose from.

Over the past six years, the Sunrise Rotary Club has partnered with the Eureka Resort for the benefit of the Mesquite Reads Program. All the proceeds from this annual sale goes to the Mesquite Reads Program. This year $850 was raised at the event.

“Mesquite Reads is fortunate to have partners like the Rotary Clubs that we can count on year after year,” said Gerry Chasko, Director of Eureka Community Initiative. “The Book Sale is a huge undertaking. But this awesome group continues to come through for us. We cannot thank them enough for their continued support of this project.”

Eureka Resort initiated the Mesquite Reads Program approximate 10-years ago. The first four years were partnered with the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce.

Each year in early summer, a Mesquite Reads book fair is hosted by the Eureka Resort. Children and their parents are invited to come and pick out new children’s books that have been purchased for this occasion. The goal is to keep the children reading over the summer months.

Deb Parsley, President of the Sunrise Rotary Club said, “We are looking forward to the next book sale to be announced soon. There will be another opportunity to pick-up some great books.”

Setting up and taking down these book sale events is a major undertaking. Volunteers from both Mesquite Rotary Clubs and Eureka get together and help make the sale events possible.
