The Virgin Valley FFA chapter hosted the Nevada Greenhand Conference and the Officer Leadership Training on Tuesday, Sept. 28 in Bunkerville.

Students from all over the state of Nevada attended the conference. Attendees include residents of Moapa Valley, Alamo, Lund, Northwest CTA, Sandy Valley, Panaca, Eureka, and Virgin Valley.

The annual Greenhand Conference is designed specifically for freshmen and first-year sophomores in the FFA. Students learn about the opportunities offered by the Nevada Agriculture Education and the FFA.

The Officer Leadership Training is for new FFA officers to get to know more about their positions and responsibilities within their organizations.

FFA chapter officers were separated out from the Greenhand members to receive training. They met outside at the park in groups to train chapter presidents, vice president, sentinels and more. Each had a packet and a video to watch with it. Every officer group had something different in their packet.

After they were done with the videos they went back to their chapter groups and practiced parliamentary procedure to get snacks. Then they did activities together in the grass.

After a lunch break, the officers took a personality quiz and got into groups with the people who had similar scores to them on the test.

Greenhand FFA members learned about all the many opportunities within FFA/Ag education with hands-on activities.
“Greenhand was a really fun experience,” said student Allen Villanueva. “I got to meet new people and sorta be myself. The activities were pretty fun because we honestly got to know everyone.”

The Greenhand students also played many games and got to know people from all over Nevada. “The things I enjoyed were the games, food, and meeting new people,” said student Livia Herrera.
