No One Asked Me But… (October 20, 2021)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… Kyrie Irving, a National Basketball Association star who makes over $40 million dollars a year, has been barred from practicing with the Brooklyn Nets and he is not allowed to play in New York or San Francisco because he refuses to get the Covid-19 shot. He has refused to claim a religious or medical exemption saying his refusal is a matter of personal freedom. He has openly stated that he is not calling for anyone else to accept his stand in protecting personal freedom but he is standing for the individual freedom he is entitled to as an American citizen. He believes an individual American has a right to determine what is done with his body. I find it refreshing that an American citizen is willing to give up $400-$500,000 dollars each time he is unable to play in New York and San Francisco to stand for what he considers his freedom of choice.

Many of those who are critical of Kyrie do not show a willingness to give up anything as they want to move America to a more socialistic type of government. I would pay more attention to Al Gore’s and John Kerry’s pleas for the protection of the climate if they were to trade their polluting private jets for bicycles and move from their energy wasting mansions. Bernie, if you want my support, place under privileged families in two of your homes and give away all but a million dollar of your bank account to take care of those you feel are oppressed by the present American system of government that you would change. Nancy Pelosi, get rid of your private security and fenced mansion before you call for the defunding of the police that protect the average American.

I would say to all the liberal left to put your money where your mouth is, sell your mansions, multiple homes, jets and give up your private security and I will be more inclined to listen to you. This is exactly what Kyrie is doing, and while I disagree with his stand on vaccination, I respect his willingness to sacrifice his income for his belief.

I also find it interesting that those who champion the right of a woman to kill the baby growing within her, based on the fact that a woman should have control of her own body, are the same ones who are adamant that Kyrie must be forced to take the vaccine or give up his job. Why should Kyrie not have the same control over his body, without penalty, that they demand for those who have supported the killing of over six million American children in abortion clinics since the Supreme Court opinion in the Roe v. Wade.

Before we go any further, let me state that I am not an anti-vaccer. I have my Moderna shots that were provided by the government through our local fire department. Who, by the way, did a great job in our community. I will get my booster shot as soon as it is available. However, this is a choice I personally made to maintain harmony in the family. It was not because a President or Governor decided that they had the tyrannical power to decree that all Americans must submit to the vaccination. While I believe getting vaccinated is a good idea, I agree with Kyrie Irving that this should be the personal decision for each American citizen.

I will be attending the Smith Center presentation of CATS where they require the wearing of a mask, presentation of a shot card, and a photo I.D. I find it interesting that I need a photo I.D. to watch a bunch of silly people dance and sing while wearing cat costumes but it is a violation of one’s civil rights to require the presentation of a photo I.D. to vote, but that is a discussion for another day. I believe the Smith Center has every right to demand these things and I have every right to choose whether I wish to comply or not attend. I do not believe a President or a Governor have the legal authority to dictate that the Smith Center to do so. One should remember no law has been passed requiring masks be worn or shot cards be produced, as these are royal decrees of dictators.

No one asked me but… For those who argue one should get the shots because they are free, let me say that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Every Pfizer shot cost $19.50, a Moderna shot costs $37 and a Johnson and Johnson costs $10, and a Novavax shot costs $16. Our federal government has paid Pfizer almost 2 billion dollars, Moderna 1 billion dollars, Johnson and Johnson 1.6 billion dollars, and the Novavax 1.6 billion dollars for their vaccines. Folks, that is not free, you and I have paid for that with our tax dollars.

In this same vain the present federal administration is looking at two spending bills that total over 5 Trillion dollars. Yes! That is with a T. Those supporting this bill have stated that it will not cost any American family making less than $400,000 a single cent. This is a false statement and once again is evidence of the free lunch syndrome.

The mere threat from these politicians have the American people already paying for this two-part program. It is called inflation. If a corporation’s tax is increased they pass that cost on to the consumer.

Let me ask you who pays the sales tax? The company selling the item or the individual purchasing the item they offer? It is really a misnomer to call it a sales tax, it is a purchase tax. Who pays the tax on gas?

The gas company? No, the consumer. Higher corporate taxes cause an increase in shipping costs as well as loss in American jobs as corporations move out of America. If you want to see the results of high corporate taxes, look no further than the Los Angeles harbor. Ask the states of New York and California, as corporations are moving out in droves to avoid the high state taxes. All of this is an indirect tax on the American citizen making less than $400,000.

Thought of the week… “In terms of morals there is no such thing as state. Just men, Individuals. Each responsible for his own acts. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”
― Robert A. Heinlein
