Online Auction To Raise Funds For Museum Storage

By VERNON ROBISON

The Progress

Time is running out for people to bid on some great keepsakes, gift items and unique activities being offered at the Lost City Museum in downtown Overton.

The museum is now holding an online silent auction which offers a variety of exclusive items and experiences for sale that only the Lost City Museum could provide. But the window of opportunity is closing soon as bidding in the auction is set to end at 8 pm on November 1.

The online auction includes unique and valuable items such as original artwork by Gig Depio, Q’Shaundra James, Ken Kaylor, Tammy Nielsen Symons and Janet Trobough. Much of this artwork was featured in the Hot and Dusty Invitational Art Show held by the museum in August.

In addition, there is Native American-made jewelry, Acoma pottery, and a signed photograph by Museum Curator Virginia Lucas available for bidding.

There are also a number of distinctive Lost City Museum activities and experiences available for bid. One of these is a special behind-the-scenes tour of the museum given by Curator of Archaeology, Virginia Lucas. This tour features all three galleries as well as a peek at the collection areas to see artifacts not on display for the public.

Bidders can also purchase a coffee event with Museum Director MaryBeth Timm. There are also workshops available, memberships to the Discovery Children’s Museum, kid packs from the Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museum, tickets to many other regional museums and more.

All of the proceeds for this auction will go to fill a very important need at the museum: more space.
“The museum is dedicated to preserving Moapa Valley’s past through its artifact storage and conservation,” said MaryBeth Timm. “But we are running out of room. In recent years, storage areas have become more crowded.”

“In order to plan for a future where the museum can continue to accept Moapa Valley’s cultural resources we are holding this auction to help with the costs of an on-site storage facility,” Timm added.
