Mesquite Veterans Day Activities to be held Saturday

The City of Mesquite will be hosting its traditional Veteran’s Day activities on Saturday, Nov. 6. The festivities begin at 7:45 am at Veteran’s Memorial Park at 301 Hillside Drive with a special flagraising ceremony.

Mayor Al Litman, a Vietnam veteran himself, invites the entire community attend the flagraising service. This is a moment to gather with others in the community to honor, recognize and remember the service of many men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Their sacrifice and service to this great nation will always be remembered.

Following the memorial flagraising will be the 23rd annual Veterans Day parade beginning at 10 a.m. along Mesquite Boulevard.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Forever Strong, Always Serving”.
“Having this parade is a necessary and important way to honor those who have sacrificed to provide freedom for our nation, to our Veterans of the past, our fellow comrades presently in the armed forces, and our future veterans of tomorrow,” states a press release put out by City staff. “We, as American citizens, will never, and must never, forget why we must celebrate and honor the military and the veterans of the United States of America. The Veterans Day Parade is an event for each and every one to take time out and thank our Armed Forces and Veterans for our freedom.”

After the parade from 11 am-12:30 pm, community members are invited by local veterans and candidates to a meet and greet at the Mesquite Veterans Center located at 840 Hafen Lane in Mesquite. Hot dogs will be served while supplies last.
