The magic of Shreek-Reeka filled the night air with shrieks of fun and laughter on Thursday evening, Oct. 28, from the VIP parking lot of the Eureka Resort in Mesquite. It was hard to tell who was having more fun: the adults or the kids.

The annual community Halloween fright night presented by the Eureka Resort gets bigger and better each year. The local service organizations have joined in the fun and helped create a midway of Halloween fun and games for all the pint-size Halloween characters to enjoy.

The event featured two funhouses this year: the scary haunted house for the bold and brave, and the Halloween candy house for the smaller munchkins not ready for the big scares yet.

It was a thrill to see the huge crowd and smiling eyes behind all the masked and painted faces. The DJ kept the music going in the background behind the shrieks, shrills and laughter from the crowd.

Andre Carrier, COO of Eureka Resort was wandering the midway taking photos of the participants’ exuberance around. “What is so obvious here to see is the fun we have all missed throughout the pandemic,” Carrier said.

“Darth Vader” Todd and his son, stormtrooper Alex Mulholland, came out of the scary house with a fun experience. “It was good, but scary,” Alex said.

The Fun House is a result of the creativity of the Eureka’s lead engineer Jim White. It was the 9th year of helping to do Shreek-Reeka, taking one year off last year during the pandemic.
“Halloween has always been a fun time for me and my kids,” White said.

This amazing haunted fun house was as clever as any you will find outside a professional Amusement Park.

Eureka Director of Community Initiative, Gerry Chasko said that it was a mad rush to get the fun house finished before showtime last week.
“We were falling behind getting the scary house built two-days short of showtime,” Chasko said. “Our wonderful Eureka employees volunteered their time and energy and completed the project. We are grateful to them.”

Participant Aurora Marin endorsed the whole experience. “The fun house was nice and scary,” she said. “But the best part of Shreek-Reeka is getting candy and the music.”

The carnival-like midway created by the service organizations included fun games like Boo Basketball, the Corny Hole, and Pin the Tail on the Donkey. The Rotary Club had set up a bubble machine.
“The Bubbles seemed to make a bigger hit than the candy,” said Rotarian Roy Stephenson.

Service Club members, working the midway dressed in costume added spooktacular vibes to the atmosphere.
“It is our pleasure to serve our community,” said Chasko. “I want to thank everyone who helped us achieve this wonderful evening.”
