The annual Clark County Parks and Rec Trunk or Treat was held at Logandale Park on Saturday, October 30 and was wickedly successful.

The new location for the event didn’t stop all the ghouls and goblins from haunting the park in Logandale. Over 20 cars were on hand to distribute candy and other treats to all the ghosts and witches who came out that night.

Vehicles transporting the kids to the park were lined up all along Moapa Valley Boulevard for about a quarter mile in front of the park. Many visitors parked across the street at the Logandale Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Local Parks and Rec Director John Stastny doubled as traffic cop and crossing guard for the evening as he ferried everyone safely to get to the other side of the street.

Metro Police Department had a patrol car crawling with spiders, and a fog machine in operation near the start of the line. Officer Dominic Drosos said this was his third time at this event with a decorated vehicle.

“Ever since I moved here I wanted to make it a tradition to have a Metro vehicle at the trunk or treat,” Drosos said. “We, as officers, want to partner with the community to encourage positive interactions with the police.”

Drosos added that he buys full sized candy bars at his own expense to hand out at the event. This year he and Officer Will Dransfield passed out no less than 120 candy bars.

Agents from Clea’s Moapa Valley Realty had a limousine on site and they were all dressed as pirates. Local realtor Lois Hall exclaimed, “We had a blast! It was very busy and there were hundreds of kids, but all of us had the time of our lives seeing all those kids.”

There was a non-stop steady stream of princesses, super heroes, villains and magical creatures prancing from car to car for over an hour on Saturday night.

Eliza Holts-Hall who was dressed as a witch said, “It was the best.” She also loved the mermaid who interacted with the trick or treaters.

Josie Rawlings, a dinosaur, and her siblings Caleb and Jacie, Pebbles and Bam Bam, were in awe of all the decorated trunks. “I had so much fun, and I loved seeing some of my friends there too,” said Josie.

Stastny said this was an outstanding turnout, with 21,000 pieces of candy given out and one of his favorite events of the year.
“It’s a lot of work!” Stastny said. “But seeing all those happy kids dressed as their favorite characters puts a smile on my face. We definitely are looking forward to next year, and hope to make it bigger and better.”
