Let The Holiday Decorating Contest Begin

It’s time to get out of the house and get in the holiday spirit! And the City of Mesquite has a holiday challenge to local residents thinking about decorating their home or business for the holidays.

The annual Holiday Decorating Contest is underway again, put on by the City of Mesquite. Holiday displays can include light displays on the entire house or building. All decorations need to be visible from the sidewalk in front of the residence or business.

Applications are being accepted now through Wednesday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m.. The contest is being limited to the first 50 applications received, so act fast!

Mesquite residents can pick up an application for this free event at the Mesquite Recreation Center or on the city’s website.
“We are encouraging community pride by decorating in the spirit of the holiday,” said Dept. of Athletics & Leisure Services Director Nick Montoya. “Individuals and businesses that like to go above and beyond in decorating in an exceptional and creative approach are encouraged to enter. The winners will be recognized for their hard work during the City Council meeting in January.”

Judging standards in the contest are based on: creativeness, lights and decorations (The GRIZ), originality, and overall appearance.

Judging will take place on Saturday, Dec. 18 and Sunday Dec. 19. Contestants should leave all holiday lights on until 10 pm on both of those nights.

For more information, contact the Dept. of Athletics & Leisure Services at 702-346-8732.
