With the effects of the pandemic still weighing heavily on them, many local business owners need all the help they can get. And nothing provides that help quite like local residents making a point of shopping local for the holidays.
In the spirit of this concept, the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting its annual Small Business Saturday event on Saturday, November 27. The event is held in conjunction with American Express and the Small Business Saturday Coalition.
“For every dollar spent at a small business, American Express estimates an average of 67 cents stays in that business’s local community,” said Mesquite Chamber President/CEO Carol Kolsen. “This has the potential to boost sales during the 2021 holiday season with many small businesses still working to make up the revenue they have lost throughout the pandemic.”
This year’s event in Mesquite will include no less than 14 participating merchants, offering a variety of Small Business Saturday specials that day.
These businesses include The Front Porch Flowers & Gifts, Mesquite Ace Hardware, Mesquite Fine Arts Center gift shoppe, Rooster Cottage, Verizon, Danielle’s Chocolates and Popcorn, The Boutique at Stephens Hair, BARK! Canine Club and Resort, High Desert Design, Body & Soul Co-Op, Boulevard Home, Deep Roots Harvest, Desert Oasis Spa & Salon and Hole Foods Bakery.
As if great holiday specials at each of these spots isn’t fun enough, the staff at the Chamber has also come up with a great activity to add even more holiday cheer to the day’s shopping. Located in each of the participating shops will be a hidden gnome figure, handmade by Chamber staff members.
Shoppers can visit as many of the participating merchants as they would like and locate the hidden gnome in the store. Once found, they can go to the store cashier to enter a drawing to win a gift card for that store.
“We will be drawing for the prizes/gifts on Monday, Nov. 29 and the winners will be notified by the Chamber staff,” Kolsen said.
Kolsen encouraged community members to come out on Small Business Saturday to have a good time with holiday shopping closer to home. “This is a great way to Shop Small and Shop Local,” Kolsen said.
“It is a way to support our Mesquite merchants while taking care of your holiday list. It is a win-win!”
