TLC Group Plans Jingle Jog 5K Fundraiser

By GRACIE LEAVITT

The Progress

A new family-friendly fundraiser event is coming to the Moapa Valley. The event, planned by the local 4-H Teen Leadership Corps (TLC), seeks to bring resources to the community to address an ongoing problem that has seen a dramatic increase since the pandemic.

On Saturday, December 4, TLC will be hosting the first ever Jingle Jog 5K fun run event beginning at 8:00 am at the Grant Bowler Elementary School parking lot at 1415 W. Whipple Ave. in Logandale.

Local residents wishing to participate in this event may pre-register at eventbrite.com with the search “Jingle Jog 5k.” Participants can also register at the run itself if they arrive at 7:30 AM.

The registration fee for participating in the run will be 10 dollars per runner. But if the runners bring a canned food item donation to the event that fee is discounted to only 5 dollars.

There will be plenty of activities to make this 5K run extra fun. Awards will be given to the winners of various age groups. In addition, there will be a Santa runner challenge. One runner will be dressed as Santa and will have bells attached. Anyone who can catch the Santa, and a bell, will be awarded a Christmas ham, provided by John Stastny at Parks and Rec.

Many volunteers will be staffing the main event including TLC members, Parks and Recreation volunteers, members of the Moapa Valley Community Education Advisory Board (MVCEAB) and local high school students from the National Honors Society.

The run was planned and brought together by the MVCEAB and the TLC. Food donations raised from the event will go towards local food banks to help families during the holidays. But the run is also being held to raise funds for a anti-pornography presentation by the non-profit, non-partisan organization known as “Fight The New Drug”.

Bringing this group to raise awareness among local youth about the dangers of pornography is a goal that has been set by the TLC. The group aims to raise $3,000 to fund the presentation to youth and a community event raising awareness about this problem.
