OBITUARY: Robert Wayne Johnson

Robert Wayne Johnson

Robert Wayne Johnson

Robert “Wayne” Johnson of Logandale, Nevada, age 72, died peacefully on December 12, 2021, with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Hale Center, Texas on March 11, 1949, to R.S. and Wanda Johnson.

Even though he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada when he and Vona were first married, he always remained ever so faithful to his roots in Texas and was the epitome of a kind and generous southern man.

Wayne was a man with the caliber of character that most men can only aspire to, with most of his good deeds going unnoticed or unrecognized. He was a very intelligent man who was always reading and learning and even earned his Associates degree in his 60’s. His work ethic was second to none. His passion for hard work was evident, having owned and operated his own successful construction business for 30 years and then later in life managing and taking care of the seniors at the Carefree Senior Living Apartments in Overton.

He was a social man with southern charm who always enjoyed “tootling” around town and making friends. You would be hard pressed to find a person who did not think he was a good, honorable man. His infectious personality and ability to spout out Texas euphemisms or tell a funny story amused all he interacted with. All who knew him, loved him. His greatest legacy is his family, and it is of great comfort to them to know his love was always unconditional and never wavered. The voided space in his family of his rightful patriarchal pedestal can never be filled. He was more than a husband, father, and papa, he was their best friend. He truly was one of the greatest men to ever have lived and, in the words of his grandson who said it best, “they sure don’t make ‘em like that anymore.”

He leaves behind his greatest pride in this life, his wife of 51 years, Vona Beth Hembree Johnson; children: Kristi Dianne (Mike) Johnson-Eames and Robert Wayne (Cairee) Johnson II; grandchildren: Brayden Robert Wayne (Diamante) Johnson, Julia Beth (Jacob) Causey, and Rylee Anne Johnson: sister, Kathy Johnson Stout; brother-in-law, Don Hembree; as well as uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, R.S. and Wanda Johnson.

The family is honoring Wayne’s wishes for a small, private family gathering. The family is requesting that, in lieu of sending flowers, a donation be made to the charity “A Home 4 Spot” animal rescue service in Clark County, Nevada at ahome4spot.com or any local 4-H or FFA chapter.
