CHRISTMAS MESSAGE: One Who Would Not Just Save But Give Life

From the very beginning of time, God planned to send us a Savior. One who would not just save, but truly give us life. The following are direct quotes from throughout Scripture, showing God’s amazing, redemptive plan for us!

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth…and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image’…so God created man in His own image.”

“[Then] the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward. As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you. And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.”

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. He will be as a sanctuary, His delight is in the fear of the Lord, and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears; but with righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth.

“Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing. He will not fail nor be discouraged, till He has established justice in the earth.’”

“Now…the angel Gabriel was sent by God to…the virgin [named] Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, ‘Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you…you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest…and of His kingdom there will be no end.’

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph…was minded to [divorce her] secretly. But while he was thinking these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying, ‘Joseph…that which is conceived in [Mary] is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.”

“So it was [that] the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger.”

“Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them…and said to them, ‘Do not be afraid…for there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.”

“For unto [you] a Child is born, unto [you] a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever.’”
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the Light of Life.”

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound…to comfort all who mourn…to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness [that] He may be glorified.’”

When our Creator and Covenant God looked upon humanity and saw the brokenness, hurt, evil, and despair in us, He did not chastise, but instead promised us a Savior. One who would not only rescue us from the bondage of sin and death, but Who would comfort us, heal us, and mend our broken hearts.
Christmas can be a dark and difficult time of year for many – Jesus understands that struggle intimately.

He is our Light, our Hope, and our Savior. May each of you feel His presence this Christmas, and praise God for His amazing faithfulness and love toward us.

Merry Christmas from
Lake Mead Baptist Church
