County Clerk Mesquite Branch To Open

By VERNON ROBISON

The Progress

Clark County Clerk Lynn Goya will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of a new branch office of the County Clerk in Mesquite this week. The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 6, in front of Mesquite City Hall building at 10 E. Mesquite Boulevard. All are invited.

“We are happy to be back in Mesquite,” Clerk Goya said. “This new office will make life easier for our rural constituents and visitors to northeast Clark County who may need a marriage license or one of our other services.”

The opening marks a return to Mesquite for the Clerk’s Office, which had a branch office in the city for a time, up until January 2012.

City Councilwoman Sandra Ramaker said that the opening of the office in the City has been a long time coming.

“We have been working with Lynn Goya and with County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick for more than a year-and-a-half to bring these services back to the City,” Ramaker said. “I am just so excited to have it here again.”

Ramaker said that the new office will be not only an added convenience, but it would also help with economic growth in the city.

“We have people who want to come here and get married and then they find out that they have to go all the way to Las Vegas to get the marriage license,” Ramaker said. “Sometimes that fact alone ends up changing their plans and funnels their business away.”

With the new branch office, visitors looking to tie the knot in Mesquite can get the whole package locally, Ramaker said.
“They will be able to do everything right here, including getting their hair done, the flowers, the food, the catering, the space,” Ramaker said. “All of that business stays right here locally.”

In addition, the new office will make other functions much more convenient for area business-people, Ramaker said. For example, the swearing in of a notary public will be done at the local office. In addition, local LLCs can apply for their fictitious name designations locally as well.

Ramaker expressed appreciation to both Goya and Commissioner Kirkpatrick for being willing to push for the local office.

“I think everyone wanted it and saw that it needed to be done,” Ramaker said. “But they just had to find a little bit of money to make it happen. They just kept on it until that got done and that is what it took. It will be a great enhancement to our City.”

Commissioner Kirkpatrick said that she was pleased to be part of bringing the county services into the City to better serve the rural residents of northeastern Clark County.

“This branch office brings more local government services to the northeast, making it easier for the residents of Mesquite and the surrounding areas to take care of their personal and business issues close to home,” Kirkpatrick said.

The Clerk’s Mesquite branch office will be open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Fridays from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The office will provide marriage licenses and fictitious firm name applications and renewals.
