A new shoppers market took place on Saturday, January 8 at the Old Logandale School.

Organized by Moapa resident Cally Wade, the ‘Second Saturday Market’ will be held every month to showcase local vendors. Although there were different food and gift items available at approximately 15 booths, Wade said that the goal was to have more of a Farmers Market with local growers presenting home-grown produce.

“There are about 30 farmers/gardeners in the valley that I know of,” Wade said. “And I think if we could get all that fresh produce in one location every month, this would be extremely successful.”

Over the course of the day, more than 100 patrons visited the ‘market’. Some of the items sold were school supplies, wood works and resin art, custom mirrors, clothing, booths with many items such as pop-it wallets and purses, custom shirts and gifts, rocks and crystals, as well as home made jelly and syrups. Two food trucks were on hand to feed the crowd.

Kira Tuiaki along with her husband Sione had a booth called ‘Lemon Bird’. She had many items such as hair scrunchies for as little as $1. Also available at her tables were pop-it balls and wallets, lipsense and beautiful western purses.

Andrea Meckley attended the event on Saturday. “I saw the ad in the newspaper and was interested to see what it was all about,” Meckley said. “There are some real one-of-a-kind items here.”

Wild Whimsies owner Susan Dreyfus had custom shirts, drink mugs, phone and media stands and more.

A real crowd pleaser as evidenced by the lines was the Mackin Wagon food truck whose menu items include a mac and cheese burger and a grilled mac and cheese with pulled pork. Another food vendor: El Chac Mool Catering served high quality Mexican-style food.

Wade herself had a sales booth with a variety of home made jellies and a tasters table so customers could try it before purchasing. But that’s not all. She also had molasses, curd, pickled veggies and more.
“I only use local, fresh, home-grown products in my recipes,” Wade said.

Wade said that she planned to hold the Second Saturday Market event at different local venues to attract more people.
“Hopefully this event will grow,” she said. “This has been a great turn-out for our first time around.”
