COVID testing event coming to Moapa Valley

The Moapa Valley Fire District (MVFD) will be administering COVID testing at a drive-thru testing event to be held on Monday, Jan. 17 and Tuesday, Jan. 18.

The testing will take place at the Clark County Fairgrounds parking lot at 1301 Whipple Ave. in Logandale from 8 am until noon on both days.

MVFD Chief Stephen Neel said that the district had been able to procure 600 rapid test kits for the Moapa Valley public over the two days. The tests take about 15 minutes to get the results.

“There has been such a demand for these tests in the community in this recent spike that we have been seeing,” Neel said in an interview with The Progress. “The Quick Care facility was being overrun by people wanting to be tested. So this will give someplace else for folks to get those tests.”

Neel added that the drive-thru testing center will operate on a first come, first serve basis and the event will continue on both days while supplies last.

Neel said that he has been working for some time on getting a large number of self-test kits which could be dispensed to the Moapa Valley public as needed. This would allow residents to pick up a kit at a public location, take it home and perform the test.

“We are still a few weeks out on that,” he said. “But there will be more coming.”

In addition, a mobile testing van is expected to making stops in Moapa Valley on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning later on this month. The van will be administering the full PCR tests.
