Mesquite Senior Games Spring Season To Begin Soon

Mesquite Senior Games (MSG) will boast a full schedule this spring for its 21st year of activities and events. It will open once again with all its customary sporting and fitness events coming back including Track & Field. The Spring 2022 games will run from March 4 through April 12.

“The line-up for our Spring Competition is designed to keep our seniors active and fit while having fun and making new friends,” said MSG Director Amy Bradshaw.

To compete in the Games, athletes must be fifty years of age or better. The competition is typically divided between men’s and women’s divisions, and further divided in five-year age groups starting with 50-54 and on up. The games have had competitors in their ninety’s. For purposes of the Games, the age you are as of December 31. 2022 is what counts.

The $30.00 registration fee entitles you to sign-up for any of the events and an MSG T-shirt. Each competition has an event fee, the average fee is $10 -$15.

The games will start on the March 4, with Target Pistol Shooting. Other events will follow in subsequent weeks including Shotgun Sports, Tennis, Bowling, Pickleball, Table Tennis, Basketball Skills, Track & Field, Bridge, Poker, Cornhole, Women’s Softball, Golf-Putting & Long Drive, Bike Race. The Games will finally end with Bocce Ball on April 13.

Bocce ball has proven to be popular enough that an extra day has been added to accommodate more players.

Also included this Spring are two non-completive events. Sign-ups are needed for these which include The History Tour on March 17 and the Fitness Hike on March 19.
“Registration for the Spring Games opened on January 1,” Bradshaw said. “We have seen good response. Right now our popular Bowling tournament is wait listed only.”

Bradshaw emphasized that the Senior Games are always looking for volunteers to help with the events.
“Volunteers play a major role and are valuable resources in the success of the Games,” she said. “You will make new friends and we all have a fun time together.”
