Filling Up Benefits MVHS

Pirate Pride runs deep in the Moapa Valley. And now, it even flows from the fuel pumps at Green Valley Grocery in Logandale.

Pumps #5 and #6 at the store have been newly bedecked with the Pirate Blue and Gold. Green Valley Grocery in conjunction with Crawford Oil is now giving a donation of 3 cents for every gallon of gas sold from these two Pirate pumps.

On Monday, April 4, MVHS Asst. Principal Mitchell Ozaki met with Jason Vockrodt, Fuel Operations Manager for Crawford Oil, and Juan Rivera, General Manager of Crawford Oil to view the newly wrapped pump with the MVHS pirate logo and dedication to Pirate athletics.

This is a relatively new campaign that the oil company has begun with other schools and organizations. And beginning last week, it came to Pirate country as well.
“We are grateful to have been contacted and given the opportunity,” said Ozaki.

Mr. Ozaki along with the manager at Green Valley Grocery was contacted a few months ago and presented with the fundraising idea. They agreed the idea would benefit them both and the campaign was put into action.

The school will receive a monthly donation from Crawford Oil which will go into a general fund available to all athletics at MVHS who have a valid request.
“We appreciate the folks at Green Valley Grocery in Logandale,” said MVHS principal Hal Mortensen. “And we appreciate their willingness to be a part of our community and our school.”
