The Progress
The Sunrise Rotary Club of Mesquite held a huge book sale fundraiser on Saturday, April 9 on the patio at the Mesquite Public Library.
Club members did a lot of work in advance to nicely arrange the books on tables and label them by genre. This made the books easy pickings for local book browsers, who came out in force.
The annual book sale is a fundraiser where all the proceeds go to the Mesquite Reads Program. The money is matched by Eureka Community Initiative, the Rotary’s partner in the program.
Rotary Club made $1200 at the sale this year.
“We average about $1200 per book sale, but we are always happy to make more,” said Rotary Club President Deb Parsley. “Many service organization in town help support this program. “
A new addition to the Mesquite Reads partnership is the College of Southern Nevada-Mesquite branch. They have given storage space to the Rotary Club for the books being collected through-out the year. They will also be holding a monthly book sale in their parking lot at the Jimmy Hughes campus. Dates have yet to be announced.
“We are thrilled to have this partnership with them,” Parsley said. “It will make it so much easier for us to handle more books and have more sales”
Gerri Chasko, Director of the Eureka Community Initiative, will be holding a Free Book Giveaway on Saturday April 16. 11 am – 1 pm in the Rising Star Ballroom. This is the program the money from the booksale fundraiser is used for.
All students and their families from JL Bowler Elementary School, Virgin Valley Elementary and Beaver Dam Elementary are invited to attend this Saturday.
