Paving to Begin on I-15 Near Mesquite

(NDOT) Crews will begin around-the-clock repaving work on I-15 south of Mesquite, starting the evening of Sunday, April 24.  Paving will occur in both the north- and southbound directions of I-15.  The roadway will be reduced to one lane in either direction in work zones up to four miles.  Crews will work double shifts, five days per week during the paving operation.

Perhaps I must have missed something the Friday morning when I was traveling from Logandale to St George Friday morning, April 29, at 3:00 am. There wasn’t a soul out on I-15 that I noticed, unless they were ghosts! I certainly didn’t see any “double shifts.” This is the problem. NDOT promises one thing and then completely fail to deliver.

The effort proffered thus far by NDOT is wholly unacceptable. I-15 is the only practical route from Las Vegas to Mesquite, St George and Southern Utah and what the project that they have arranged (which is supposed to run thru November 2022) is a total nightmare.

The crack NDOT Executive Team, led by Executive Director Kristina Swallow has completely failed to followup and properly supervise and assure that the contract road work being done on this section of I-15 not only gets done expeditiously, but also is completed with sensitivity to the customers who own the highway…THAT’s US!!!! The other day it took me 2+ hours to go 19 miles on the southbound side of I-15. I had a similar problem heading northbound (although not quite as long a wait) going to Mesquite.

One can only surmise that NDOT does not care. If the citizenry are satisfied with mediocre, substandard and/or incompetent service by their government then they are getting the government that they deserve. While the voice I raise in protest may fall on deaf ears that doesn’t mean that I’m willing to take what NDOT has left on the table. And in my mind what they have left is a legacy of incompetent, lazy oversight of this project. Shame on them!
