About 25 classic cars, and their owners, cruised out to Desert Springs, Arizona bright and early on Saturday morning, April 30 for a new monthly event. The newly opened Carquest auto parts store at 4370 E. Farm Road was hosting its first Cars and Coffee, an get-together which is scheduled to take place on the fourth Friday of every month from here on out.

“We have had a great turnout for this first time around,” said Jessica Meierhoff of the Carquest store. “Most of the people came from the Scenic area and from Mesquite. But we even had a couple come down from St. George.”

It was perfect weather for a classic car cruise. People drove in to the Carquest parking lot with their colorful hot rods, rat rods, muscle cars and more.

There was plenty of coffee for the morning crowd. And donuts from Hole Foods Bakery in Mesquite were provided by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce.

Later in the day, the store held an open house event which included live broadcasts from St. George radio stations KUTQ Coyote Country radio at FM 102.3 and ZION-FM Classic Rock from 104.1.

The store grilled up hot dogs for open house attendees throughout the afternoon.
“We have had a good amount of people show up for the open house as well,” Meierhoff said. “A lot of locals from here in Beaver Dam and Scenic. Everyone is just excited to have the store here.”

As a new Carquest store, the Desert Springs location is well stocked with many items that are hard to find nowadays, considering the current supply-line snarls, Meierhoff said.
“For example, I guess motor oil is really hard to get nowadays,” Meierhoff said. “We are lucky to have a good inventory of it. The same is true of a lot of other automotive items.”

Meierhoff said that she was pleased with the day’s activities. She is looking forward to hosting the next Cars and Coffee event later this month on Saturday, May 28 beginning at 8 am.
“Everyone is welcome!” Meierhoff said. “We are just excited to be open and to be getting the word out that we are here, in business and eager to serve the community.”
