Mesquite Works hosted a job fair at the Mesquite Recreation Center on Friday, May 13. Over twenty local businesses, recruiters, and coalitions provided essential information for job seekers in the Mesquite area at the event.

“It is a great way for us to connect our community and local businesses,” said Shaylnn Ruth of the Mesquite Works organization. “Community members have access to meet multiple employers at a single time, and we believe it is incredibly beneficial.”

Mesquite Works is a non-profit organization that aims to provide training opportunities for jobseekers and businesses in the Virgin and Moapa Valleys as well as the Arizona Strip communities. It is run completely by community volunteers who contribute to the positive growth of Mesquite’s economic base, and it is dependent upon the investment of time, talent, and treasure of local residents.

Many coalitions and non-profits were seeking volunteers for their respective organizations. The Virgin River Coalition, Mesquite Community Education Foundation, and Mesquite Senior Games among many others were there looking for volunteers to help out with events, projects, and other responsibilites.
Mesquite Senior Games recently held 15 events between March 19 – April 12. They are accepting help for their fall schedule.

College of Southern Nevada was also in attendance providing information about all the new classes being offered on their campus and online.

Many local businesses were also present looking for workers. These included Eureka Resort, Do It Best,

Mesa View Regional Hospital, and a multitude of other businesses.

One particular booth seemed to gather the most interest of the fairgoers. Crown Brand-Building Packaging is the new aluminum can plant coming to Mesquite. Located in the Mesquite Technology and Commerce Center, the 355,000 square foot facility is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2023 (May) and will create 126 new jobs.

The jobs range from general laborers, electricians, machinists, and engineers. The plant will be producing eight million aluminum cans daily that you will be able to identify on any given can with the Crown logo.

The company is looking to begin their hiring process very shortly, and they are offering great wages with benefits.
“It is crazy to see how much Mesquite is growing!” observed Deborah Hunt, job fair attendee.

“Mesquite is transitioning from a retirement community, and we are very excited to see the new endeavors these new businesses bring to our city.” said City Councilman George Gault who is also the Chairman of Mesquite Works board.

Gault said that the Mesquite Works is also turning its attention to child care in Mesquite. “With all the new companies and existing businesses we understand there is a need for child care within our community.”

Mesquite Works is asking for input from community members in Mesquite. Local residents can go to www.surveymonkey.com/r/mesquitecc and fill out a quick five minute survey to help understand and quantify the need for child care in the community.
