LETTER: Mail-in voting

They used COVID as an excuse to mail out ballots in recent elections. However, now that they have finally lifted the lockdowns and mandates, it should go back to people going to the polls to vote unless they have a reason they cannot make it to the polls. Mailing out ballots to all that are registered just puts the whole process into question.

Most states do not remove people who have died or have moved to another state from their voter rolls. This would explain people finding piles of ballots supposedly unused.

How many illegal immigrants have been added to the voter rolls illegally by registering to vote at the DMV? If those are not removed from the voter rolls, they will automatically get a ballot in the mail.
No one has even mentioned the wasted taxpayer dollars to mail out thousands of ballots to people who no longer exist, have moved away or are not legally entitled to vote..

Also, I have already received my ballot. However the law set the deadline for mail in ballots to be mailed by the election day, June 14th. Any ballots postmarked by the 14th but received by 5:00 PM on the 18th, will still be counted. Since we get the ballots over 2 weeks ahead of time, why can’t it be that mail-in ballots be postmarked by the 10th to allow them to be received by the election day so that people who are concerned about the election can see results on election day (as they have in the past)?

If we went back to having citizens go to the polls to vote (they have early voting for those who might not be around on election day), we would save millions in unnecessary postage (it’s paid for both ways).

Those who feel they cannot go to the polls, can still request a mail-in ballot. This would give more people confidence in the election process.

I’m tired of both parties complaining about possible voter fraud because they lost an election. I do not know if there has been election fraud. But allowing each state to mail out ballots to people they know are no longer in the state to vote does not give people confidence in the process. Waiting late on election night to only be told the results are delayed. Then :mysteriously they find thousands of ballots that had not been counted, it’s no wonder people question the process.

Each state has the right to set their rules about their voting process. But, if they do not follow their own rules, people are right to question why they make last minute changes.

Common sense is like deodorant, those who need it, never use it. But enough about life-time politicians.
