Gary Dean Scacco

Gary Dean Scacco, age 73, passed away on May 29, 2022 in Overton, Nevada. He was born on July 4, 1948 in Chicago, IL to Joseph Scacco and Alice Williams. His family moved to Moapa Valley, Nevada in 1958 when he was a young boy. He graduated from Moapa Valley High School in 1966.

Directly after graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he completed two tours in the Vietnam Conflict earning a Purple Heart during one of these tours. He was honorably discharged in 1969 and returned to Overton.

A short time later, Gary and his younger brother, Duane, drove to Chicago to look for work. While in Chicago, his uncle, Frank Scacco, got him a job at the docks working for Sweetheart Cups. Homesick for the valley, the two brothers returned to Overton a year later and Gary got a job at Simplot.

Gary met Jennene Perkins, and they were married on June 12, 1971 in the St. George, Utah Temple. In 1974, Gary started his own business, Valley Refrigeration & Sheet Metal. He was determined and had a great work ethic. He worked until he was no longer able. He trained his daughter and son to take over his business.

Gary had a big heart and was always doing silent acts of kindness. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a wonderful loving husband. He always thought of others.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jennene Scacco; his children: Brian (Emily) Scacco, Sara Lynn (Jackie) Scacco, and Staci Lea (Sharon) Scacco; his grandchildren: Peyton (Sierra) Scacco and Ashley (Jacob) Cooper; his great-grandson, Matthew Gary Scacco; his mother, Alice Scacco; his siblings, Jennean Ellen Scacco, Anthony Paul Scacco, and Michael Joseph Scacco; and his mother-in-law, Betty Perkins.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2022, 6-8pm at the Moapa Valley Mortuary. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022 9:30-10:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Overton Chapel, with funeral service held at 11:00am.
