LETTER: Enhancing security is the answer

I just finished reading your editorial on gun control (The problem is bigger than gun control: The Progress, Jun. 8, 2022). You are right, no more gun rules will eliminate the evil that is willing to attack “gun free zones.”

I understand many of the private schools have set up with just one way into their schools (during classes) and often have it so that there are two sets of doors to get in. Once inside the first set of doors you are met with an armed guard who is allowed to determine if whoever is trying to get in should be allowed in or not. Then there is another set of doors before you are actually in the school proper. These schools report that they have not had any incidents of shootings since implementing this security practice.

If we can send $40 billion to another country (when the country is already bankrupt) why can’t we spend money to secure our schools. Once the “bad guys” realize the schools are no longer a gun free zone, they will not attempt any mass shooting.

We may need to include churches with security as they are often hit by shooters who know they are gun free zones.
