No One Asked Me But… (June 15, 2022)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… Last week I watched a new television series. This newest entertainment serial is designed and directed by professional television personnel and is disguised as a Congressional hearing. It is a slickly produced program similar to the series West Wing which occurs during the fictitious Democratic administration of President Josiah Bartlet. But this newest serial is set in the actual Democratic administration of President Joe Biden.

This unique series appeared on all major networks without commercial interruption. It is a review of the results of a year-long hearing conducted by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The term select has special meaning when one is aware of the fact that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to seat the Republican Congressmen recommended by the Republican leader in the House on the committee. Instead Pelosi handpicked two Republican congress-persons both of whom voted to impeach President Trump twice.

The introductory program presented careful edited snippets from the more than 1,000 witnesses and the 140,000 documents collected by the committee.

The plan is to present six carefully edited episodes in prime time. Each episode after this introduction will have its own focus. The first will present the concept that former President Trump promoted a lie of a stolen election. The second will center on Trump’s attempts to misuse the Justice Department to cling to power. The third will explore the pressure campaign on Vice President Mike Pence to persuade him to throw out electoral votes for Joe Biden. The fourth will outline how the mob assembled and descended onto Washington, DC on Jan. 6. And the last episode will attempt to show that Trump did nothing to stop the violence for more than three hours while the assault was underway.

Let us take a look at this “bi-partisan” committee. The committee is made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans. Democrat Bennie Thompson of Mississippi is the chairman of the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack.

Republican Liz Cheney of Wyoming serves as the vice chairwoman of the committee. Cheney has been an outspoken critic of Trump and was one of 10 House Republicans to vote to impeach him. House Republicans have punished her for her public opposition to Trump by removing her as their party’s conference chairwoman in May of last year. She faces a Trump-endorsed challenger in the GOP primary in her re-election bid.

Cheney told CBS in an interview that aired over the weekend that she believes the January 6 attack was a conspiracy. She has even gone as far as to say that Trump’s inaction to intervene as the attack unfolded was a “dereliction of duty.”

Rep. Adam Schiff is a Democrat from California. Schiff also serves as the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Yes, this is the same Adam Schiff who lied about having proof of Trump collusion with the Russians when he was the lead impeachment manager representing Democrats during Trump’s first impeachment trial.

Before the airing of the show he stated, “January 6 will be remembered as one of the darkest days in our nation’s history. Yet, more than a year later, the threat to our democracy is as grave as ever. January 6 was not a day in isolation, but the violent culmination of multiple efforts to overturn the last presidential election and interfere with the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in our history.”

“The former President and his allies have spent every day since January 6 attempting to rewrite history about that bloody attack on our nation’s Capital,” Schiff said in a statement to CNN. “That’s why these public hearings are so essential — to show the American people exactly how January 6 came about, who is responsible, and most critically, what we can and must do to prevent another attack on our democracy.”

Rep. Jamie Raskin is a Democrat from Maryland who previously served as the lead impeachment manager for Democrats during Trump’s second impeachment trial.

Rep. Elaine Luria is a Democrat. She served 20 years as an officer on Navy ships, retiring as a commander. Rep. Pete Aguilar is a Democrat from southern California.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren is also a Democrat from California who served as an impeachment manager in the first impeachment trial against Trump.

Rep. Stephanie Murphy is a Democrat from Florida. Before serving in Congress, Murphy was a national security specialist in the office of the US Secretary of Defense.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois is one of two Republicans on the committee. He broke with his party by accepting the appointment from Pelosi. Prior to the hearings Kinzinger placed much of the blame of the violence that day on Trump and his allies. Kinzinger is one of 10 Republicans who voted twice to impeach Trump. His willingness to take on Trump led to the former President personally promising to back a primary opponent. Instead of facing the prospect of a Trump-backed challenge, he chose to retire from Congress at the end of his current term.

To me the make-up of this committee seems to fall a long way from being impartial. Every member of the committee voted twice to impeach the President.

The first impeachment was based on lies and false information championed by Adam Schiff. The second impeachment was undertaken with no evidence at all. The second case was so feeble the Senate did not even bother to hold the trial required by the Constitution. However, I will leave it to you to decide on how “bi-partisan” and unbiased this committee is.

While I find the attack on the Capitol and Trump’s accusations of a stolen election despicable and a threat to democracy, I believe the greater threat today is the fact that political hacks have stolen the American news media and turned it into an even greater source of entertainment than it was before the government takeover by the Congressional Select Committee.

With all of the problems facing the people presently in power in America, propaganda is all they have left to give the American people in this November’ election.

Thoughts of the week… “In Russia we only have two TV channels. Channel 1 was propaganda. Channel 2 consisted of a KGB officer telling you: Turn back at once to Channel one.”
– Yakov Smirnoff

“The easiest way to propagandize people is to let a propaganda theme go in through an entertainment picture when people do not realize they are being propagandized.”
– Elmer Davis
