The Valley of Fire State Park is looking for volunteers to help guests at the Visitor Center information window and assist with educational programming in the park.
“We are looking to build a volunteer team in our education department,” said Valley of Fire Park Interpreter Kayla Wolfe. “And to do that, we are looking to spread the word about these opportunities to the Moapa Valley community.”
Wolfe said that volunteers would begin by interacting with the public at the visitors center. Volunteers would rotate between being stationed at the information window and doing educational presentations at the center.
In addition, as the outside weather improves this fall, some field opportunities will be available throughout the year.
“As the weather cools down, we could do other things outside like some trail maintenance, sign maintenance and other hands-on park projects,” Wolfe said.
Volunteers also assist during guided events such as night hikes, Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs, school field trips, the park’s annual Bio-Blitz and more, Wolfe said.
“No experience is required to be an interpretive volunteer,” she said. “All training is provided.”
Those interested in volunteering can attend an information session at the visitors center to get up to speed on the role. Information sessions will take place from noon to 1 pm on the following days: Thursday, July 14; Friday, July 15; Saturday, July 16; Sunday, July 17; Wednesday, July 20. Those interested can plan to attend one of these sessions when its most convenient. Just check in at the information window by noon on any of those days.
