The 4th of July Golf Shamble and adult dinner dancing party instigated by Thomas Stark at the Oasis Grill Room and Palmer Golf course was a huge success.

The golf tournament had 72 participants and the dinner party was a full house with all 150 tickets sold to an enthusiastic crowd.

Stark who is a golf event planner by trade, used his skills to organize the event. He said that he did it just to offer a 4th of July celebration that local people, and of course himself, could enjoy. It was a not-for-profit event, Stark said. There were no other motives for the evening except having a good time celebrating Independence Day.

The event succeeded! Many local merchants joined in the patriotic fun time and generously donated the prizes.

The fun evening began with the Mesquite Café Blues Band, featuring Linda and Paul Villanueva, playing a medley of patriotic songs. A solo highlight of the Star-Spangled Banner played by Paul on his electric guitar, and a beautiful rendition of “America” sung by Linda, were both a real treat.

Then they started with the dance music and attendees headed to the dance floor.
Stark announced the winners of the 2022 “Summertime Blues Stark-Spangled Shamble.” There were a lot of winners for the many different categories, too many to list. Everyone seemed to win something in the tournament and there were a lot of happy faces.

Jeff and Angela Herzog, moved to Mesquite one year ago from northern Nevada. Angela said they saw an ad for the party and they both entered to play in the Golf Shamble.
“We think this is a great event!” said Angela.

The group was lively and ready to have a good time. Most everyone dressed patriotically, with red, white and blue. There was even a contest for the most patriotic dressed couple. It was won by Bryce and Vicki Lewis.

Participant Lisa Carter commented on how well the event had been organized. “Stark did a good job setting this event up,” Carter said. “He went all out and I will be back next year.”

There was a delicious buffet from Chef Mathew John in keeping with the 4th of July theme. The buffet included BBQ beef and pork ribs, baked beans, blackened catfish, yummy corn bread and a variety of salads.

After dinner dancing and prize drawings went on until the Fireworks started over the Eureka Resort. These could be clearly seen from the patio just outside the Oasis Grill Room. Everyone gathered on the patio, to ‘oooh and ahh’ over the spectacular display.

The band played on after the fireworks. Everyone there had a safe and fun time celebrating the 4th of July: adult-style, as Stark called it.
