LETTER: Not Worthy!

As a lifelong Republican, I deeply appreciate the light that is being shined into dark places by the January 6th hearings currently ongoing in Congress. It is long past time that the Republican party definitively cut itself loose from the political millstone that is Donald J. Trump. At this point I believe that it is a simple matter of political survival for the GOP.

I call on my Republican friends to cast off the misguided belief that the 2020 election was somehow stolen away from Mr. Trump by some conspiratorial liberal deep state. There is simply no proof of any such thing. I have looked high and low for such proof. So have numerous courts, judges and magistrates across the country after the last election. There was no proof then and there is no proof now! It is ‘fake news,’ my friends. We have been lied to.

I also urge my fellow Republicans to pay close attention to these Congressional hearings. Last week’s hearing featured testimonies from numerous Trump administration officials, all speaking with one voice.

They testified that the former President intentionally sat and watched as a violent mob of his supporters – a mob which he himself had incited – stormed the Capitol building and attempted to interrupt a tradition of a peaceful transfer of power that has prevailed in this country through thick and thin for more than two centuries. Mr. Trump; who had made an oath to preserve, protect and defend the U.S. Constitution; sat in his dining room for several hours through all of that terror, violence and mayhem and did nothing.

My Republican friends, wake up! This is NOT fake news. Mr. Trump is NOT a savior to freedom and liberty. Rather, he is a clear and present danger to it.

Trump’s behavior on January 6 was not worthy of a President. It was not worthy of a patriot. It certainly was not worthy of a Republican! And he is not worthy of another thought in the 2024 Presidential elections.
