The Progress
Mesquite first responders received presentations of more than $10,000 in private donations at the Mesquite City Council Meeting held on Tuesday, July 26.
The money came from proceeds of the second annual Best of the Best First Responders Charity Golf Tournament, organized by Eagle’s Landing and held on June 25 at the Conestoga Golf Club.
Councilman Brian Wursten introduced the item. “I was excited to be on the board of the First Responders Charity Golf Tournament,” Wursten said. “It was just a great experience!”
Kenny Huff, General Manager of the Mesquite Eagle’s Landing, was in attendance to present checks totalling $5,250 each to the Mesquite Police Department and to Mesquite Fire and Rescue Department.
Accepting the checks at the meeting were Police Chief Maquade Chesley and Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Tobler.
Huff said that this year’s tournament was a great success. “We increased the number of our teams from only five teams last year to 12 this year,” Huff said. “That allowed us to raise a total of $10,500 for our local first responders.”
Huff recognized the members of the tournament board who had helped plan the event. These included Wursten, Captain Spencer Lewis of Mesquite Fire and Rescue, Lieutenant Tracy Fails of Mesquite Police Department, golf pro Mark Whetzel of the Conestoga, and Donna Huff.
Huff also expressed appreciation for the tournament sponsors which included the City of Mesquite, Casablanca Resort, the Eureka Resort and Southwest Gas.
