On Wednesday, August 3, Mesquite Police Department detectives received a tip that two female fugitives from northern Utah were possibly staying in Mesquite. Detectives followed up on this information and discovered both females were registered to a hotel room.
While detectives were conducting surveillance on the hotel, the fugitives exited the room. Detectives positively identified both females and safely took them into custody. During their investigation, detectives observed the suspect’s vehicle had a license plate attached to it that was reported stolen. The detectives’ search of the vehicle unveiled a large amount of property that had been stolen during recent vehicle burglaries throughout Mesquite. The evidence recovered allowed detectives to close eight separate vehicle burglaries and return property to the rightful owners.
Erika Rochelle Vigil, 31, of Magna, UT, was arrested and charged with felony possession of personal identifying information of another, felony possession of credit card without owner’s consent, nine counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen property, and a fugitive felony warrant.
Sherri Lee Vigil, 28, of Salt Lake City, UT, was arrested and charged with two counts of felony possession of personal identifying information of another, two counts of felony possession of credit card without owner’s consent, nine counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen property, and a fugitive felony warrant.
Due to the felony charges both females were transported to Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas.
Additional charges are pending as detectives complete their investigations into all the burglaries.
In response to these arrests, Chief MaQuade Chesley said, “we repeatedly see criminals and fugitives come from out of state with the intent to victimize our residents.” He continued, “Mesquite and our residents are not easy targets. Our officers and detectives are proactive and vigilant; we will always do our part to arrest and hold these criminals accountable.”
