The Progress
The crew of Pirate’s Landing restaurant was in ship-shape on Monday, August 8 to mark the first anniversary for the Logandale pizzeria being under the ownership of Danielle Holliday. They opened the doors at 4 pm as usual, but were in for a big surprise.
The parking lot was soon completely full and the phones ringing off the hook as customers flocked in to order their favorite pizzas and drinks for the big event.
The Pirate-themed restaurant managed by Danielle’s daughter Gia Holliday, was soon filled to capacity as the crew began serving their customers.
“We were completely overwhelmed, in a good way,” said Gia. “We were not expecting to see this kind of support!”
Gia explained that the past year has been filled with growing pains and challenges. But the mom and daughter team knew they were on the right path as they listened to their customers and made moves to expand and improve the restaurant.
By 6pm the Pirate’s Landing crew was getting bogged down with the high demand. There was a wait of over an hour for dine-in customers and even longer for call-in orders.
At one point, as Gia took inventory of ingredients that were needed, she noted that the stores of pizza dough was running low. She had to stop taking orders for pizza at that point. She quickly placed an ‘emergency’ order from her supplier.
“We never experienced anything like this before,” said Danielle. “And though the support from the valley makes my heart happy, I was saddened that the wait times were long and some people couldn’t be served at all.”
The two ladies were apologetic to their customers. But everyone seemed to stay in a good mood understanding of the delay of their food given the circumstances.
Danielle knew they had to somehow make it up to their customers. So she decided to extend the anniversary special of ‘buy one get one pizza free’ to Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as well.
Angela and Stephen Provost were there with theit brand new kindergartener Victoria. ”We didn’t figure on it being so busy here tonight,” Stephen said. But we wanted to support this business because we have also just been here a year, and they do have great pizza. We also wanted to celebrate the first day of school with Victoria.”
Another patron, Kasen Kolhoss, was on hand to have dinner. “Wow, this is so great!” he said. “I am super happy for them, to have this kind of turnout.”
Kolhoss acknowledged that the restaurant serves good pizza. But he admitted that his heart was elsewhere. “My favorite thing on the menu is the fried pickles!” he said.
By evening’s end, the entire crew was exhausted but happy with the success. They had turned out over 200 pizzas in 4 hours; let alone all the other food and drink items on their menu.
“We have felt so loved,” Danielle said. “I never anticipated that Moapa Valley loves our pizza so much. We love Moapa Valley and we are grateful for your continued support.”
