The Progress
The students and teachers of Moapa Valley High School celebrated their return to school at the annual and beloved Back to School Bash held on Tuesday, August, 9 at the Logandale Park.
This first week of school party has long been a tradition to kickoff the new school year. IT is organized and planned by the MVHS Student Council.
Students had a great time participating in the various activities that were set up by student council members. Games included corn hole, spike ball, volleyball, frisbee, football and tug a war. Another activity included the traditional slip n slide, which was made possible by Moapa Valley Fire District volunteer Greg Witter. Witter ran the fire hose to keep kids slippin’ and slidin’ throughout the entire night.
Music and food were provided by the student council. There were also two food trucks lined up in the parking lot for the students to enjoy desserts. These included the Soda Bomb and Joeys Gelato. The kids had options for students to buy a refreshing dessert.
The bash has been a traditional organization ever since MVHS moved to its present building back in 1993.
This year’s back to school bash ran smoothly. The only problem which arose was beyond anyone’s control. The event had to end just a bit early due to a stormfront that rolled in bringing heavy wind as well as thunder and lightning.
Student Council Adviser Suzanne Garlick explained that she was grateful for the students for all their hard work in setting up the event. “The turnout was great!” Garlick explained. “StuCo was very happy with how many students attended the event.”
The students all seemed to all have a great time together.
“I really enjoyed the back to school bash and I loved watching everyone have so much fun,” said sophomore Bella Mendoza.
Junior Melanie Fisher agreed saying, “It was so much fun to have such a good start to the school year.”
The student council also extended a special thanks to the support of Moapa Valley’s teacher chaperones and the school’s administration. Thank you to all who were there that night who helped to make it a safe evening.
Thank you to Kim Hardy, Kim Roden, Dallas Larsen, Charlie and Alisha Cooper and MVHS principal Hal Mortensen for all coming out and supporting the event. We could not do it without you.
