No One Asked Me But… (August 17, 2022)

By DR. LARRY MOSES

No one asked me but… I was reviewing a column I wrote in the summer of 2008. As I read, I got the feeling that as much as things change, they stay the exactly same.

While inflation is running rampant today, this is not just Donkey Pox. In 2008, while George W. Bush, a Republican, was President – and the country was suffering from inflation, fourteen years ago – I wrote: It’s the national debt, stupid! It’s the housing problem, stupid! It’s the costs of gas, stupid! It’s the economy, stupid!

Today I would add: it is the printing of money and handing it out to people, stupid.
I understand that it is not nice to call people stupid, but one must wonder what we need to call the American people to get them to wake up.

While the present administration revels in the fact that it is increasing corporate taxes, it is not the lack of taxation that has killed the American economy. If you total up all the taxes you pay, you will find somewhere near fifty percent of your income, or more, goes for taxes of one kind or another.

Biden’s increase in corporate taxes to support his Green New Deal is not the answer. The American people do not seem to understand corporations pay no taxes. Any tax placed on a corporation is merely passed on to the general public within the price of their product.

One of the greatest misnomers in the world is the “sales taxes.” There is no such thing as a sales tax. What you have is a purchase tax. The individual selling the product does not pay the tax because the purchaser does. In the State of Nevada after you make your purchase, an 8.6% tax is added to your purchase price.

The major problem today is the same as it was in 2008: the lack of discretion when it comes to government spending. Those tax and spend politicians used to be just liberal Democrats, but now it is all of them.

This reminds me of the commercial on TV for structured settlements when they shouted, “It’s my money and I want it now.” Well, it’s not their money and they may need it now but that is their fault for the shabby job they have done handling the money the American people have made available to them.

When I was a kid and I had a pet project that I wanted done, I would go to my father and asked for the financial help to make the project a reality.

My father would reply, “Wait a minute. I will go into the backyard and pluck those funds off the money tree.”

I soon came to realize there was no money tree. The problem with the federal government officials is that, though they realize the money tree does not exist, they have found the printing press and do not hesitate to churn out a few extra trillion dollars for their pet projects.

This influx of worthless dollars has caused the inflation that we are all suffering from today. When the feds run out of money, they merely print more in an attempt to keep the peasants happy, at least until after the November elections.

In 2008, I was not concerned with fixing the blame for runaway inflation, which by the way at that time was also tied to the raise in gas prices. That is still the case today. I am not interested in fixing the blame but I am, however, interest in fixing the problem.

Give me a Presidential and legislative candidate that has a viable solution and I will be a happy voter. I care not whether they are a Republican or Democrat.

No one asked me but… The Democrats are making a big mistake attacking Donald Trump. They as well as the Republicans need to get off Trumpfluenza (TPFZA 24 as verses COVID 19).

The Jan. 6 Hearings are merely a fishing expedition in hopes of finding a felony to charge one Donald Trump with so he will not be eligible to run for the Presidency in 2024. However, they have found nothing that could be considered as a felonious attempt to overthrow the duly elected government in 2020.

Since those efforts seems to have failed, the Democrat Attorney General ordered the Director of the FBI (a Trump appointee) to raid Trump’s private residence in hopes of finding a violation that could be used to disqualify him from office. Agents of the FBI were tasked to serve a court ordered search warrant, an event that happens routinely in America. However, this one was unusual in that it was served on a past President of the United States. It was served by a force that would have made those who planned the Normandy invasion proud. There was air support overhead as a large number of heavily armed FBI agents invaded Mar-a-Lago. This too was an attempt to find a felonious action on the part of Donald Trump making him ineligible to run for the Presidency in 2024.

Let me suggest to you that this is a grave mistake on the part of the Democrat leadership. If indeed a court was to find that some of the documents President Trump took with him from the White House are of such a nature that a felony has been committed, they have handed the Republicans a gift.

You say, “How can that be?”
Let me explain.

If Trump were to be selected as the Republican candidate for 2024, there are many Republicans who would not vote or even worse, come out in support of the Democrat candidate. If you don’t believe that is true let me remind you that in Harry Reid’s last election 200 prominent Republicans came out in support of Harry because they did not like the Republican candidate Sharon Angle.

If Trump did not get the Republican nomination, his massive ego would force him to form a maverick right-wing party and run under its banner. He could revive the Bull Moose Party established by Teddy Roosevelt when he failed to receive the Republican nomination in 1912. This split the Republican Party and the Democrat Woodrow Wilson was swept to victory. The Democrats should be praying for a Trump run for office, rather than making a martyr out of him.

Thoughts of the week… Inflation is when you pay fifteen dollars for the ten-dollar haircut you used to get for five dollars when you had hair.
